Yoga Pants

Yoga Pants

Yoga pants are tight-fitting pants that are primarily intended for people participating in yoga activities, but can be worn for a number of other physical activities involving a lot of bending, stretching, and movement, such as aerobics, Pilates, and dance. The most common types are black with an elastic waistband folded over the top. Recently, yoga pants have become more incorporated into everyday clothing and are often worn casually by women, particularly during the autumn and winter seasons.

Why They Help Performance

Yoga pants are extremely comfortable and allow you to bend and maintain your flexibility, which make them ideal for practicing yoga. There are different types of yoga pants, some of which help keep you cool while others help keep heat in, which is perfect if you are practicing yoga outdoors.

What are They Made of?

Cotton and synthetic blends are the most common materials that make up yoga pants. In colder climates, yoga pants may be made from a wool blend to provide a greater insulation. This can be a negative if you wear them for hot yoga or other intense exercises, because you could overheat. Yoga pants can also be made from polyester, nylon, and spandex.

Washing and Care Instructions

With yoga pants becoming more and more pricey, it is extremely important to take proper care of them. This starts with washing them correctly. When you are washing your yoga pants, do not put towels in the same load. Instead, make sure you wash them with other synthetics to prevent any snags from rougher fabrics. You should also go easy on the detergent. Use only the amount required to remove any dirt from your pants. Too much detergent may cause the fabric to break down. Use a cold water cycle, because hot water can damage the synthetic material, and do not use a fabric softener. If you have enough time, you can hang your yoga pants to air dry. If you are in a hurry or you need them, you should be able to throw the pants in the dryer. Lululemon, one of the popular brands of yoga pants, claim that their pants are preshrunk. You may want to tumble dry them, however, just to be on the safe side.

Who Makes Them?

There are many brands of yoga pants, with Lululemon being the most popular. Lululemon Athletica was founded in 1998 by Chip Wilson. Its headquarters are located in Vancouver, British Columbia, and they currently serve Canada, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand. They are a self-described yoga athletic store, but have begun expanding into other items of clothing, including running attire, coats, and sweaters. Other popular brands of yoga pants include Prana, Tuff Athletics, Old Navy, Lucy Activewear, Victoria’s Secret, and Bend Active.

Price Range

Yoga pants are very expensive. At Lululemon, they typically cost around $100. Luckily, if you are shopping on a budget, there are other places you can go to find yoga pants at a cheaper price. At Victoria’s Secret, for example, you can find a pair of yoga pants for around $50. For the most part, however, you should expect to pay somewhere between $50 and $100. You may be able to find name brand yoga pants for cheaper at online retailers, although when you factor in shipping costs, the price may end up being similar if not more than what you would have to pay in store.
